VRTOOL et Firefox 4, 5, 6 ou 7 : ça marche !

Bonjour à toutes et à tous ! J'ai mis le temps avant de tenir mes engagements de vous tenir au courant. Je suis sûr que pour beaucoup d'entre vous, je ne vais pas révéler un grand secret. Mais pour les autres ... ?
Alors oui, il y a un truc pour que VRTool puisse continuer à récupérer les positions de votre bateau et celles de vos amis.

1. Dans Firefox, il faut télécharger et installer le module complémentaire HTTPFOX
2. Redémarrez Firefox et affichez la barre des modules (bouton orange Firefox > Option > Barre des Modules cochée.
3. Cliquez-droit sur le bouton HTTPFOX  qui apparaît dans la barre de modules en bas à droite de votre écran et sélectionnez les options.
4. Assurez-vous que les options "Automatically start watching when browser starts" et "Remove the INHIBIT_CACHING request-channel flag" sont cochées. Validez les modifications en cliquant sur OK.
5. Vous pouvez redémarrer une dernière fois Firefox pour être sûr que toutes les modifications ont été prises en compte.
6. Dans la fenêtre "Importer les données à partir de Firefox de VRTool, il faut maintenant que le champ "Boat Data File" soit à plugin-ServiceCaller-*.php (notez l'astérisque et non le point d'exclamation).

Normalement, ça marche. Testé sous Windows 7, Firefox 4.0.1 et VRTool 1.97d. Il peut être utile de supprimer de manière régulière le répertoire Plugtmp de votre dossier temporaire : contrairement à la version FF3, les fichiers caches sont ajoutés dans ce répertoire au lieu d'écraser les fichiers précédents.

EDIT : ça marche aussi pour FF 5, FF6 et FF7. Assurez-vous cependant que vous utilisez bien la dernière version de HTTPFOX.

Dear All! It took time for me  to keep my promises for keeping you updated. I'm pretty sure that lots of you already know what I will "reveal": Yes it is possible to capture the Firefox positions of your boat and those of your friends and to transfer them to VRTool

1. In Firefox, you must download the add on called HTTPFOX
2. Restart Firefox and Display the Add On bar (Firefox Orange Button > Options > Add-On Bar checked)
3. Right-click on the HTTPFOX button that is displayed at the bottom right of your screen. Select the HTTPFOX options.
4. Make sure that the options "Automatically start watching when browser starts" and "Remove the INHIBIT_CACHING request-channel flag" are checked. Validate the changes by clicking on OK
5. You may want to restart one more time Firefox, to make sure that all your options have been recorded.
6. In the VRTool window "Import Data from Firefox", the field "Boat Data File" must be set to plugin-ServiceCaller-*.php (please note the star, not the question mark)

Normally it should work. Tested under Windows 7, Firefox 4.0.1 and  VRTool 1.97d. It might be wise to regularly delete the folder Plugtmp in your temp folder: contrarily to FF3, the temporary files are added in the folder instead of overwriting the previous files.

EDIT: it works well also for FF5, FF6 and FF7.  However make sure that you use the latest version of HTTPFOX.

VRTOOL et Firefox 4

La version 4 de Firefox vient de sortir et certains d'entre vous ont pu l'essayer. Une des modifications "cachées", c'est que le cache a été modifié. L'importation des positions de votre bateau et de celles de vos amis ne fonctionne plus. Omar est au courant de la situation et n'est malheureusement pas sûr de trouver une solution. ALORS RÉFLÉCHISSEZ DEUX FOIS AVANT DE PASSER A CETTE VERSION.

Le version 4 of Firefox is now available. Some of you may have tried it. One of the hidden modification concerns the data cache, which has been modified. As a consequence, the import of the boat positions (yours and those of your friends) no longer works. Omar is aware of the situation but is not certain that he can find a solution to fix. THINK TWICE BEFORE UPGRADING TO THIS VERSION.

Ca fait bien longtemps ... It a long time !

Je vous ai laissé tomber et j'en suis désolé ! Entre beaucoup de travail et une participation à pas mal de courses, je n'ai pas eu le temps de mettre à jour le manuel avec pas mal de petites idées que j'ai encore dans ma besace. Un petit mot quand même pour vous dire que je suis super content de lire que Bilou (Roland Jourdain) s'est servi du manuel pour faire un résultat qui - somme toute - est plus qu'honorable. Je suis encore sur le Jules Verne et la Vélux. Je sais que des nouveautés vont bientôt enrichir l'interface de VR. Des trucs demandés depuis longtemps ... mais chut ! Je n'ai pas encore le droit d'en parler !


I left you for a while and I'm sorry for that ! I had too much work and I participated also to too many races. I didn't get enough time to update the guide, although I have many small but useful ideas. This post though to say that I'm proud that Bilou (Roland Jourdain) read the guide for the Challenge. He did quite a good result ! I'm still on the Jules Verne (almost on the same time than Filovent) and Vélux. There are a few good things to come on the VR interface. But sh.... : I'm not allowed to reveal them right now. But the improvements have been asked for a while.

Nouveau départ sur la Jules

Après trois reset, cette fois-ci est-elle la bonne. En tout cas Le Grand DIC TPN est en code vert pour un départ vers à 14h30  :-) ce samedi 22/01.

Même si c'est un peu tard, je souhaite une bonne route à celles et ceux qui sont en course ou qui vont partir.

Jules Vernes : application des vents à 7h50 et 19h50

Cette information est sûrement déjà  connue de ceux qui sont déjà partis mais on ne sait jamais :-) La bascule des vents sur la Jules Verne a lieu à 8h00 et 20h00 GMT+1, les rafraîchissements de position ayant lieu à 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 et 50 de chaque heure. Ceci veut dire que vous devez régler votre cap AVANT 8h00 et 20h00 en anticipant ces vents.  (que vous pouvez trouver sur VRToutoulz ou sur Sail.Zezo bien avant l'heure fatidique !).

C'est en particulier très important s'il y a une renverse de vent pour vous éviter de faire du sur-place pendant dix minutes ... pas le meilleur moyen de battre un record ! En pratique, je vous recommande de faire ce changement - ou de le programmer - le plus tôt possible après 7h50 et 19h50 pour éviter les désagréments d'un serveur qui est souvent très chargé à cette heure.

This information is surely already known by all those who started on Jules Verne. But who knows :-) The wind shift occurs at 8AM and 8PM GMT+1, the positions being recalculated at 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 of each hour. This means that you must change your heading BEFORE 8AM and 8PM, anticipating the change (which you can find on VRToutoulz or Sail.Zezo largely before the shift!)

This is very important if there is a significant change in the wind to avoid loosing ten minutes ... not the best way for breaking a record ! In practice I recommend that you change - or program - you new heading soon after 7:50 AM and 7:50 PM to avoid the disagreements of a crowded server...

Pacotool et Vrtoutoulz de nouveau actifs

Je viens de recevoir un courriel de Pascal m'informant que Pacotool et Vrtoutoulz fonctionnent de nouveau sur les deux adresses suivantes : http://www.pacotool.fr/ et http://www.vrtoutoulz.fr/. Il y a également un forum dédié à ces deux fabuleux outils : http://forum.pacotool.fr/. Mais que cela ne vous empêche pas de continuer à vous exprimer sur ce blog en y laissant vos commentaires :-). Je mettrai prochainement à jour les liens dans le manuel.

I just received a mail from Pascal, announcing that Pacotool and VRtoutoutlz are fully back and running. They can be reached at http://www.pacotool.fr/ and http://www.vrtoutoulz.fr/. There is also a new forum dedicated to these two great tools : http://forum.pacotool.fr/. But this shouldn't prevent you from commenting on this blog. I will shortly update the links in the guide.

PacoTool : Mauvaises Nouvelles / Bad News

Comme vous avez pu le constater, le site pacotool n'a pas fonctionné bien longtemps. Pascal a de gros soucis pour faire remarcher son serveur. Malheureusement (pour nous), il part en vacances demain et n'aura pas le temps de réparer les problème d'ici là. Il vous prie de l'excuser et vous assure qu'il fera tout son possible pour vous redonner l'accès à votre outil préféré dès son retour.

Par contre le site http://www.vrtoutoulz.fr/ donne de nouveau accès aux précieuses informations de Ricoo. En particulier, si vous suivez le guide :-)), vous pourrez utiliser VRTool pour vous aider dans la navigation.

As you have surely seen, the pacotool site didn't work for a long time. Pascal has important concerns with his server. Unfortunately (for us), he's on holidays from tomorrow morning and doesn't think he will be able to repair the problems before then. He apologize for this and assure you that he will do his best to give you back access to your favorite tool as soon as possible, upon his return.


In the other hand Ricoo's site http://www.vrtoutoulz.fr/ is back and running. Following the guide, you should be able to parameterize VRTool to help you in your routing calculations.

Le serveur www.estceouvert.com semble ne plus répondre. Pascal a ouvert un serveur de secours. Il suffit de remplacer www.estceouvert.com par www.ideebd.com dans tous les liens que vous trouverez dans le manuel. N'oubliez pas de modifier aussi vos marque-pages. Bonne fin de course.

Ce lien ne marche plus depuis hier soir. Mais je sais que Paco et Ricoo travaillent sur une solution de remplacement. Je vous tiendrai au courant dès que j'aurai de plus amples informations.
